- Chilton Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation's objective is to promote a total approach to wellness using a broad range of traditional and complementary services. Physical, occupational and speech therapy are the traditional techniques while massage and reflexology are the complementary services. The following types of massage are available:
- Chair Massage
- Designed to enhance relaxation and flexibility for healthy clients. This mini-massage focuses on the neck, shoulder, back and arms, while the client is fully clothed. The service is 5 to 30 minutes in length and well suited for the work place and other group locations.
- Swedish Massage
- A systematic approach of stroking, kneading, vibrating and tapping movements designed to stimulate circulation and energize the body. Swedish massage can be adapted to the special needs of pregnant clients.
- Medical Massage
- Designed for those clients with specific medical problems such as back pain or arthritis, medical massage includes passive and active stretching, acupressure, cranio-sacral therapy, lymphatic drainage and myofascial release.
- Reflexology
- Stimulation of the body's healing system through application of pressure to specific zones in the foot, hand or ear.
- Cupping Therapy
- An ancient Chinese technique in which a vacuum is created inside inverted cup placed on the body. The approach is used to loosen adhesion, lift connective tissue, stimulate blood flow to stagnant skin and muscles and simulate deep tissue massage.
Services are available Monday through Saturday, including evenings. Physician referral is not required. Most insurers do not reimburse for these services.
Massage may be used in conjunction with traditional medical therapies but does not replace the need for proper medical diagnosis and care from a qualified physician.
- Dynavision/Safe Driving Screen
- Dynavision is a high-tech vision assessment aid for older adults or stroke patients who need a driving screening test. If you continue to spend time behind the wheel, a new vision program offered at Chilton Memorial Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation may offer benefits to improve vision capabilities.
Dynavision 2000 training board is used to assess eye movements, eye/hand coordination, and reaction times - all key elements to safe driving. Since visual abilities help people to solve problems, formulate plans, and make decisions about actions, the innovative testing system can help older adults improve their skills when operating a vehicle.
"When people call for information, they comment that they never knew such a test existed, explained Doctor of physical therapy, Christian Marquez. "People often find that Dynavision 2000 helps them understand the fundamentals of good vision. An individual's scanning abilities, peripheral vision, depth perception and eye hand coordination all contribute to good vision.
During the test, the participants' reaction time is registered as 64 buttons light up randomly. After each button is touched, another one lights up on the board. Marquez explained that different modes assess reaction time while others are specific to assessing peripheral vision awareness, concentration and endurance. Those whose visual or motor functions may be reduced by age and those who may have suffered stroke or a head injury are also candidates for the Dynavision 2000 assessment.
