The Laboratory at Chilton Memorial Hospital

The Laboratory at Chilton Memorial Hospital is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays to ensure that patients receive their diagnoses as quickly as possible. Considering that 70 percent of all medical decisions on patient care are driven by information from laboratory results, the Laboratory is an integral factor in Chilton Memorial's commitment to delivering quality care.

Services We Provide
The Laboratory serves many essential functions. If a patient is on a medication, for example Plavix, they can have testing done to ensure that the medication is at proper levels and that no adverse affects occur. The Laboratory, which provides a clinical database for patient assessment, comprises seven sections:

  • Blood Bank
  • Chemistry
  • Hematology
  • Microbiology
  • Patient Services/Phlebotomy/Send Outs
  • Surgical Pathology/Autopsy Services
  • Laboratory Outreach

A Personal Approach
Many outpatients visit the Laboratory on a weekly or monthly basis. They feel comfortable because they establish a relationship with our staff. The Laboratory helps to provide a continuum of care: Should patients ever need to visit Chilton Memorial Hospital on an inpatient basis, we have their medical history already on record.

Caring for our Community
The Laboratory partners with the Chilton Memorial Hospital's Community Outreach department to offer screenings and vital health-related information at local health fairs. Laboratory technologists join phlebotomists and nurses to provide screenings in areas such as cholesterol, glucose and PSA testing. Laboratory technologists are also there for quality control purposes, ensuring that equipment is functioning properly.

Pediatric Testing
The Laboratory also serves as a center for outpatient pediatric testing. Parents can bring their children to be tested for lead, bilirubin, allergens and much more.

Partnership with the Mayo Clinic
Did you know we have a partnership with the prestigious Mayo Clinic? The award winning, Minnesota-based facility serves as our reference lab. If for some reason we cannot perform certain tests because of specialized instruments, containment rooms or chemicals and compounds that are not readily available, we can still collect the sample prescribed by your physician and send it to the Mayo Medical Laboratory. Results are typically available within three days. Some tests may take longer. AFB (acid-fast bacillus) cultures for tuberculosis can take up to three months.

Appointment Information
No appointments are necessary for the Laboratory's services, with the exception of Glucose Tolerance testing. However, a prescription signed by your doctor is required for all Laboratory services. Call (973) 831-5180 for Glucose Tolerance testing appointments.
