Chilton Opens Renovated Pediatric Unit
Chilton Memorial Hospital's newly renovated Pediatric unit was designed to provide quality and compassionate care to individuals up to 21 years of age. The specially trained professional staff knows that when a child must be admitted to the Hospital for illness, surgery, or a special procedure that this is a very scary and stressful time for families. The Chilton Memorial Hospital staff is here to work with the parents and the child. Understanding that parents need to be with their child, nearly all patient rooms are private. A parent can feel free to stay with their child throughout the hospitalization. The staff is specially trained to keep the family informed and to explain your child's medications, procedures and your doctor's prescribed plan of care. The staff encourages questions and parental involvement in the child's care.
Expert Physician Care 24 Hours a Day
At Chilton Memorial Hospital, there are pediatricians (also known as pediatric hospitalists) available in the Hospital 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It is a comfort to know that no matter what time your child needs the expertise of a pediatrician, there is a doctor available in the Hospital. The pediatric hospitalists work in collaboration with the community pediatricians.
Specialized Treatment Room
Many procedures can be performed right on the Pediatric unit in the specialized Treatment Room. This allows children to remain on the Pediatric unit without having to travel throughout the Hospital for their treatment. Younger children get to ride in the red Med-Wagon from their room right to the Treatment Room for their procedure.
The New Unit
With the renovation complete in Pediatrics, there are many more private rooms. "Prior to renovation, the majority of patient rooms were double rooms, now the pediatric rooms are private," said Nurse Manager Shelley Clancy, RN. "This is a huge plus because parents and patients want and need privacy. To me, this is one of the best features of the renovation project." Other highlights of the inpatient Pediatrics unit beautification project include:
  • Newly renovated rooms with flat-screen TVs
  • Rocker/glider chairs
  • New cribs and beds
  • A Treatment Room with a MedWagon designed to transport patients to and from their rooms with minimal anxiety
  • A playroom complete with a portable video game system, a flat-screen TV and a selection of movies and books
  • A visitors' lounge for parents and their visitors equipped with coffee machine, internet access and a flat-screen TV
Pediatric Emergency Department
Another aspect of pediatric care that sets Chilton Memorial Hospital apart from other area hospitals is its dedicated Pediatric Emergency service. If your child is having an emergency, a pediatrician is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and will see your child within about 20 minutes from the time of registration. The Pediatric Emergency department is a separate area open between noon and midnight. The four treatment rooms are equipped with kid-friendly designs. Decorative motifs help divert a child's attention so Hospital staff can obtain vital signs easily and perform necessary treatment. Special equipment and a separate Pediatric Emergency reception area add to patient and family comfort.
The Pediatric Emergency service operates all day, every day. The doctors and nurses have extensive pediatric emergency training and certifications in advanced pediatric life support to take care of even the youngest patients who seek medical attention at Chilton Memorial Hospital. So if your child has an emergency and you want to be seen by a Pediatric Emergency physician quickly, choose Chilton Memorial.
