(Pompton Plains, NJ) - The Transforming Care at the Bedside initiative (TCAB) is a quality improvement program initially developed and led by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement. Chilton Memorial Hospital's Medical Surgical Oncology Unit, which adheres to TCAB standards, received a visit from representatives of the New Jersey Hospital Association (NJHA) and the RWJF on July 16. They learned about Chilton's TCAB projects and met with staff and nursing leaders. The NJHA and RWJF representatives were impressed that Chilton's Medical Surgical Oncology Unit is already working on their fourth "small test of change" (rapid changes that improved care at the bedside). They were also moved by the staff's involvement and enthusiasm about TCAB. "The TCAB representatives acknowledged that it was a very busy day due to the high census," said Director of Medical Surgical Services Denise Montano. "However, all staff members made an effort to attend the meeting and engage in conversation to benefit from the wealth of knowledge and TCAB experiences that our guests could offer. In addition, our President and CEO Debbie Zastocki (DNP, RN), our VP and Chief Nurse Officer Joanne Reich (RN, NE-A) and Director of Critical Care Services and Nursing Practice Karen Stutzer-Triemel (RN, CCRN), met with the TCAB personnel before they visited the fourth floor. They greatly appreciated the support from our senior leadership." Chilton Memorial Hospital is a fully accredited, 260-bed, acute-care, community hospital.
