The ceremony commenced the beginning of a new era in breast cancer care at Chilton. Renovation of the Comprehensive Breast Center, scheduled for completion around the end of 2010, is designed to improve patient flow. One area will be dedicated for patients receiving screening (basic) mammograms so they can enter and leave within a half hour. Another area will be for diagnostic (more involved) mammogram patients. Two new ultrasound machines will also help speed the pace and improve patient satisfaction. The new Comprehensive Breast Center will also enhance patient comfort. The registration area and the exam rooms will be moved away from the rest of the department to provide a more private experience for patients. In addition, a third digital mammography unit and a new, state-of-the-art stereotactic table will be added this summer. Reckitt Benckiser (RB), a world leader in household, health and personal care, is the renovation's key sponsor. With its U.S. headquarters in Parsippany, the company's generous $125,000 donation will be earmarked to create the new Air Wick® Waiting Room, which will include Internet access and a coffee/tea machine. "Our Air Wick brand is all about creating a warm and comforting atmosphere for your family's home," said RB Communications Manager Caroline Buonomo Hey. "We want to bring the same warmth and comfort for patients at the renovated Comprehensive Breast Center. That's why we have chosen to partner with Chilton on this very important project for the community." One of the more notable donations from RB occurred in 2007 when the company gave $250,000 to build Chilton's "Lysol Playroom," a beautiful waiting area for children awaiting the arrival of their new brother or sister. "We're very grateful for our many supporters who have helped Chilton grow to better serve the community," said Chilton Foundation Executive VP Dawn Jones. "RB has provided us with tremendous assistance over the years and we are honored to name the new Air Wick Waiting Room for them." With more than 15,500 patients visiting Chilton's Comprehensive Breast Center each year, greater than most leading urban hospitals, expansion is a necessary strategic priority in order to meet the increasing demands of the region. "The revitalization of this center not only benefits our patients, it serves as a symbol of many great things to come at Chilton," said Chilton President and CEO Deborah K. Zastocki, DNP, RN. "We are truly grateful for all of our donors' generosity and commitment to optimize the health status of our community members." Chilton Memorial Hospital is a fully accredited, 260-bed, acute-care, community hospital.
