- Receive a nutritional evaluation.
- Attend a support group meeting.
- Receive a psychological evaluation.
- Submit nutritional and psychological evaluations and a cover letter according to the requirements of your health insurance company to obtain authorization for surgery.
- Receive health insurance authorization for surgery.
- Check in to Chilton Hospital to be admitted for surgery.
- Undergo weight-loss surgery.
- Remain as an inpatient for two days.
- Follow a postoperative diet of clear liquids for 10-14 days after surgery.
- Graduate to a pureed food diet for 6-8 weeks.
- Reintroduce regular foods slowly.
- Begin to lose approximately 75 percent of your excess weight after surgery.
- Receive follow-up plastic surgery, if necessary or desired.
